In these trumpian times we sorely need a laugh now and then. Our liar-in-chief lies on average 5.5 times a day according to WaPo. A laugh beats a lie for sure. Below you'll find five funny songs - at least funny to me - with the name of the singer followed by the song title, songwriter(s), part of the lyrics and maybe a comment or two.
Cheryl Wheeler - "Potato" (Cheryl Wheeler)
"They're red, they're white, they're brown They get that way underground There can't be much to do So now they have blue ones too." Favorite verse:
"They have eyes but they do not have faces I don't know if their feelings get hurt By just hanging around in dark places Where they only can stare at the dirt."
The Chorus: "PotaTo potaTo potaTo Potato Potato Potato Potato PoTato poTato poTato PotaTo potaTo PotaTo potaTo PotaTo potaTo potaTo."
Jamie O'Neal - "Wide Awake" (Jamie with her father, James Murphy) the only original song from her country covers album, "Eternal".
"He's snorin' again and I'm wide awake
Its like a nascar race bein run on his face
And the bed starts to tremble and shake
I try to roll him over I kick him with my feet
Hell I gotta wake him up so I can get sleep
For a moment he's quiet and then
He's snorin' again."
Yes Dear - "If You Weren't Here Today" (Joey Boone & ???)
"Can't believe I ever learned to drive without you here
Sittin' there beside me tellin' me just how to steer" ...
"it's clear that my vocabulary is not what you prefer
well maybe i'll just move my lips while you supply the words"...
"can't believe i ever learned to drive, speak or dress
without you here beside me, my life would be a mess"...
Faith Hill - "Dearly Beloved" (Georgia Middleman & Fred Wilhelm)
"Good mornin' dearly beloved
We are gathered here today
To watch two people we know
Make a big mistake
They'll stand up at the altar
And solemnly swear "I do"
They'll be together forever
'Til they find somebody new"
Dick Feller, Rita Schneider and others - "I Just Don't Look Good Naked Anymore" (Sheb Wooley & Dick Feller - Sheb also wrote the "Purple People Eater", a #1 hit song in 1958 and played a cowboy on the 1960's tv western "Rawhide").
"Well I went to my doctor for my annual medical exam
stood there in the buff, suddenly he said "Man"
what is it doc, some fatal disease, I just gotta know the score
No, you just don't look good naked anymore"
